Mt. Airy Day

The annual Mt. Airy Day community festival took place on Saturday, May 5 on Germantown Avenue at the Cliveden historical park. This site was the exact spot where a Revolutionary War battle occurred. I volunteered to work at this event and also sampled a few of the food trucks that were parked on Germantown Avenue: Philly Fry, El Guaco Loco, and Pound Cake Heaven. All three trucks served up some tasty goodies!

El Guaco Loco

Since it was Cinco de Mayo, I thought it would be fitting to start with some tacos from El Guaco Loco. I reviewed the El Guaco Loco truck parked at Temple back in the day, and these tacos were just as tasty! With a price of $7 for two tacos, we tried the carnitas and the chicken tinga tacos. Delicious and spicy, they were worth the long line wait!

Philly Fry

unnamed (2)

The line for Philly Fry was pretty long and before I got to the beginning of it, they had run out of small bills and cheez whiz. I decided to get the Devil’s Crab Fries, which were topped with crab claw meat, American cheese sauce, and devil’s seasoning. The portion was huge, and I shared it with my husband. I was so hungry I must have forgotten to take a photo of it before digging in, but if you go to their Instagram page here they have a photo of it. I did take this photo at the bottom of the cup, to show that the cheese and toppings went all the way to the bottom! The Devil’s Blend is a housemade seasoning with cayenne and habanero, along with other secret spices. It provided quite a kick! They also sell this seasoning on their website.

Some of the other offerings that sounded awesome were the chorizo fries with chipotle, chorizo sausage, and cheese sauce; and the South Philly with steak, cheese sauce, and bacon.

Pound Cake Heaven

I saved the dessert for much later, since I was pretty stuffed with tacos and fries. Pound Cake Heaven had a wide variety of cakes with different frostings. The pound cake was a regular vanilla cake that was super moist. I chose the strawberry buttercream frosting. For $5, I got a large slice which required two sittings to complete, because of the size of the portion and the richness of the cake.

Pound Cake Heaven has two store locations in Yeadon, PA and in West Philly.
