I have been trying to catch up with this cute little banana whip truck for some time now. I was intrigued by the concept: a completely vegan “ice cream” made completely from bananas, with tons of fun topping combinations. Boasting a healthy and delicious alternative, the owner (?) in the truck was dressed in a tie-dye shirt that read, “This is Bananas! No seriously, it’s just bananas.” He had some fun guitar jams drifting out of his truck while he worked non-stop to help the long line of patrons waiting for their sweet treats. The Verdict: It’s amazingly delicious and creamy!

I was finally able to find the truck at Mt. Airy Village for the Thursday night food truck event that runs through the summer. Dinner at Mucho Bueno and dessert at The Chilly Banana seemed like the perfect summer treat, and before I even ate my dinner I was perusing the many different flavors displayed on the menu board. Both my friend and I were having a hard time deciding!

I finally settled on the Banana à Paris for myself because I am a sucker for the combination of bananas, strawberries, and nutella. It has everything I want: sweet, chocolatey, nutty, tartness from the strawberries. The banana whip was creamy like a soft serve ice cream or frozen yogurt. The coconut milk whip cream was a nice addition too! My husband opted for the Choco PB Crunch, topped with a mound of housemade chocolate sauce, creamy peanut butter, peanuts, chocolate chips, and a sprinkle of chopped peanuts. Since my husband is obsessed with peanut butter, it wasn’t as hard a decision for him. My friend, on the other hand, changed his mind a few times and then also selected the Banana à Paris.

I really want to try all of them! The Memaw with homemade peach sauce also sounded very enticing, as well as the Banana Shortcake. For how good it was, I was shocked that it seemed he was just “juicing” whole, frozen, very ripe bananas in a juicer to create this wonderful dessert. However simple the dessert is, the housemade sauces and various toppings do add a lot to complement the banana whip, and the sauces especially are the perfect sweetness without overwhelming the banana flavor.

The truck even has a Woof Whip for your pup for only two bucks, which is a small portion with peanut butter on top. My dog would LOVE this! For kids, or those who like it simpler, there are cheaper and more simple make-your-own options. The kid portion is half the size of the regular portion, and includes one topping for $3. What a deal! You can also get a plain regular portion for $5 and add any toppings for 50 cents each. Any of the fancier combos are $7 a piece, but worth every penny.

Lastly, I’d just like to give special mention that the truck is socially conscious with their “Sprinkle of Kindness” program. For any order of rainbow sprinkles, they donate the 50 cents to charity. Sweet deal!

If you see this truck or hear it will be in your vicinity, RUN don’t walk and thank me later. 🙂
