Shrimp Tacos from Burritos Feliz

It’s been a while! After much encouragement and urging from colleagues, friends, and my husband, I have decided to bring the blog back in a limited capacity. My husband is very excited about searching out food trucks again and trying their food, I am finished with both of my graduate degrees and COVID lockdowns are hopefully behind us, so I finally have a little time to write again! For my first post back, I’d like to give a shout out to Burritos Feliz/Burritos Tijuana for putting the first idea in my head to bring the blog back. We ordered the tacos in the photo above back in April 2022, but I still remember how amazing they were.

Burritos Tijuana is the mini version of Burritos Feliz, and by that I mean it is a smaller taco cart run by the same owners. Both trucks put out amazing food full of flavor and spice. The first time we visited, back in April 2022, we stood in line for over an hour in the rain waiting for food at Wissahickon Brewing Company. We were both impatient and starving by the time we received our food, but boy oh boy was it worth it!

We ordered the shrimp tacos and the birria tacos. The birria tacos won Best Birria from Philadelphia Magazine in 2021. All of their tacos are huge and filling. I could not even finish all three of my birria tacos (see photo below and marvel at their size), I had to save one for later. I don’t even know if I finished two of them, I may have given half to my husband to finish! We also had the shrimp tacos, as I mentioned before. I could only manage to try one bite after scarfing down my birria. The shrimp tacos were well-seasoned tacos, covered with a big dollop of guacamole, smothered in pico de gallo and red cabbage, and doused in a spicy chipotle sauce. Limes were served on the side for this colorful and tasty treat!

Last night, again at Wissahickon Brewery, we were able to catch up with Burritos Tijuana, the smaller taco cart. It was a chilly and dark night but this time the food was flying out of the cart and we received our order in just ten minutes! There were two men swiftly cooking and assembling the food inside the cart while another man took orders and expedited. This time we ordered the Al Pastor tacos and the Shrimp Burrito. Prices were decent, as shown in the menu below.

The food came with two types of salsa, a smoky Chipotle salsa and a bright salsa verde. They were both of medium spice. The tacos were much spicier than the burrito, and I enjoyed them with the green salsa added for a nice tomatillo and citrusy burst. The burrito was stuffed full with rice, beans, cheese, sour cream, pico de gallo, and lots of fat shrimps.

While my husband would have liked this to be a bit spicier, we both thought the burrito had excellent flavor and was very filling! Overall, our experience at Burritos Tijuana was similar to our earlier visit at Burrito Feliz, very memorable. We thought the customer service was exceptional on both visits and I plan to go back and try more of that birria next time.
