The Dos Hermanos taco truck is a busy, busy eatery. It took me over a month for our schedules to align so that I could sample enough of their goodies to give a proper review. Dos Hermanos (Spanish for “two brothers”) is run by Manuel and Gabriel Lezama. The pair of brothers were on a mission to bring authentic Mexican tacos to Philadelphia. They make everything–including their tortillas–completely from scratch. It’s the small details like this that make this truck truly special.

My first taste test of any Mexican restaurant is always the Al Pastor. A perfect mix of the sweetness and tartness of pineapple complements the savory and spicy pork. I requested mine with mild sauce, which is the salsa verde. The tacos were generously filled with pork and pineapple, topped with onions and cilantro and garnished with radishes and limes to squeeze over the top.

On my next visit, I was disappointed to see that the crab quesadilla and the agua fresca were missing from their specials menu. Must have been a busy week! Instead, I decided to try one of their specials, the Scallop taco. I was surprised to see they used the small bay scallops instead of the larger sea scallops I usually eat. Bay scallops are found in shallower waters and have a more delicate flavor than sea scallops. I again opted for the salsa verde. This taco was also topped with fresh mango salsa, which had diced red peppers, onions, and cilantro mixed in. This was another winner!

Gabriel Lezama, one of the brothers, has always been working the front window every time I have eaten at this truck. He is always friendly, attentive, and the service is super quick. On future visits, I plan to try the shrimp tacos, fish tacos, and burritos as well. I would also like to try the chipotle mayo that is another choice as a salsa. They have a nice selection of Jarritos sodas and other drinks.

I am pleased to say that this truck was worth the wait. I will definitely be back to try more of their menu items!
