I love pizza, and I am not one of those weirdos who puts restrictions on what can go on a pizza. I am not one of those people who thinks pineapple on pizza is a sin. Put whatever you want on your pizza, it’s the perfect food vehicle for that. But every once in a while, I want a simple regular pie. A good crispy, thin crust, a herbaceous sauce, and just a couple of toppings. The problem with a lot of pizza places is they overload the toppings and the crust gets floppy. I like a good, crisp sturdy crust. Ramble Pizza had all the basic elements of a decent pizza without any gimmicks. Just a good, solid pie.Continue reading
Having spent some of my childhood in Sicily, I was intrigued by the concept of a truck specializing in Sicilian cuisine. More specifically, arancini or “riceballs,” which are small balls of arborio rice (used to make risotto), traditionally filled with meat and peas, then rolled in breadcrumbs and deep fried until golden. The name “arancini” literally means “little orange” which likely refers to its appearance resembling the small fruit, as you can see in this photo: Continue reading
It was a blazing hot day, one of those sticky humid July summer days where the air feels thick, when I was in search of a truck that was not where it said it would be. Having made the trek over to Drexel University already, I took a peek at the trucks that were there and decided Pitruco Pizza would be lunch. I was intrigued by the glow of the wood-fired oven inside the truck, as well as the interesting combinations displayed on their menu. Continue reading
This truck really lives up to its hype with creative pizza toppings. My favorite was the taco pizza, a perfect combination of two of my favorite foods. The sauce is some kind of hot sauce, covered with chicken, tomatoes, lettuce, sour cream, and cheddar cheese. Everything tasted freshly made and the crust was firm and crispy. The slice was considerably smaller than the BBQ chicken pizza, but much thicker with all the toppings. Both slices were perfectly cooked and I was unable to finish the second slice because it was so big. Also super affordable because they have a special of 2 slices with toppings and a soda for $5.50! What a deal!
