Dump N Roll truck

I was told about this truck by several of my readers as well as friends, so I have been on the lookout for them for some time now, and finally caught up with them this month at The Porch. I love that this truck has so many different items and combo platters where you can try so many of them at once! It is also a very popular truck, there was a line but it was definitely worth the wait.

Little Lulu Cafe truck

The weather is warm and that means food trucks are back out in force! I made my trek out to The Porch at 30th to find the Lulu Cafe truck parked there. I remember seeing this truck parked on Temple’s campus back when we had the Royal Tea Truck also parked nearby, but alas now both have left us. This is mostly a bubble tea truck specializing in all kinds of fancy flavors, but I was happy to see they had some lunch items available as well.

Royal Zarasa truck

Royal Zarasa is a labor of love launched by Terrance and Tiffany Hopkins-Bey in February 2018 as a means to share Tiffany’s love of comfort food. With dishes like BBQ brisket, shrimp & grits, chicken & waffles, salmon slaw sandwiches, and chicken wings, Royal Zarasa’s southern inspired menu made it hard to decide on what to have for dinner as we visited Love City Brewing.

Slurp food truck specializes in made-from-scratch ramen, accompanied by Korean fried chicken and Asian-inspired tacos. Slurp owners boast that their ramen broth simmers for days, and I can attest that the flavor definitely packs a punch. On a cold, rainy night when soup sounded like a perfect end to a long day, I gathered a couple of friends to try out this truck.

Jungle Curry with Fried Chicken

I have been chasing this truck down since I heard it existed. I am not sure why our schedules never aligned until this glorious day, but it was definitely worth the wait. The Jungle Curry with fried chicken in the above photo passed my husband’s spiciness test. There were many tasty sounding items on their menu; it made the decision hard on both of us. And while the Crab Red Curry caught my eye, I ended up settling on the Lemongrass Coconut Curry with pork meatballs, and a couple of bao buns to start.

Deke’s BBQ graced our presence at Wissahickon Brewing Company, so I headed over to check out their offerings. From my brief research (that is, drooling over their photos on their Facebook page), I quickly learned that their Brisket Cheesesteak was their specialty. Their take on Philadelphia’s iconic sandwich included their tender smoked brisket with BBQ and cheese sauce. I read that it was the #1 on Thrillist’s Top 50 things to eat in Philadelphia before you die. As we approached the truck, my husband saw the many signs for the brisket cheesesteak and decided to order it. Continue reading →

LoveCity

While I am a lover of Thai food, I am not very well-versed on Laos cuisine, so I was excited to hear that Flaming Basil was making an appearance at what is becoming my favorite bar in Philadelphia, that is, Love City Brewing Company. We sat down with our beer and perused the menu and decided to order a sampling of a couple appetizers and a couple entrees to see what they had to offer. Everything we tried was delicious!

SoPhiE, which is short for South Philly East, is a shared food truck sponsored by the Southeast Asian Mutual Assistance Associations Coalition (SEAMAAC). More about that later. On this particular night my friends and I stopped for drinks at Love City Brewing, and the food truck was run by Chef Zing Thulai, offering Burmese fusion options. My first order for the table was two sushi rolls, the Chinland Roll and the A Chai Roll. I say “first” because I went back for seconds, it was THAT GOOD.

Coming off a big win in the Billy Penn 2018 Ultimate Philly Food Truck championship, Stuff’d Buns has been busy slangin’ their sliders all over the Philly area. After the final head-to-head battle against Dump-N-Roll (I’m still trying to hunt this truck down to try it), Philly voters selected Stuff’d Buns as their ultimate favorite, and these two hard working ladies triumphed despite being a fairly new truck on the scene. They just celebrated their first year of slider sales in July. I was beyond excited to try out their selections. Continue reading →
