The Lola Sandwich from Mucho Bueno
Every Thursday evening, food trucks park at the Weaver’s Way Co-Op store in the Mt. Airy section of Northwest Philadelphia. This week, the Mucho Bueno taco truck and Zsa’s Ice Cream were parked on the corner so we opted to have a dinner date seated alongside the trucks. Mucho Bueno is known for their creative Mexican-BBQ fusion tacos, but my husband and I decided to try the sandwiches instead. There were a lot of choices, including vegetarian and gluten-free options. Sandwiches were large and served with a side of homemade tortilla chips. I was also pleased to find out that Mucho Bueno sources its ingredients locally. Even the tortillas for their tacos and chips are made in Philadelphia. The chicken and pork is smoked on their truck and the components of the sandwiches and tacos are homemade.

Perusing the options available on the truck made me feel very indecisive. So many of the sandwiches sounded good, but I finally landed on the Lola, partly due to the use of sweet potatoes which I love. Also included on this sandwich was chorizo (a spicy Mexican sausage), a housemade cheese sauce, pickled red onions, and coleslaw. This was all served on a long roll for a huge, messy but tasty meal. Be sure to grab a ton of napkins AND a fork so you can enjoy every last bite of this amazing sandwich. Spicy, cheesy, with crunch from the coleslaw and tanginess from the onion, this was a winner in my book!

The Jumpoff Sandwich
My husband, a bacon lover, had originally wanted tacos but changed his mind when he saw the description for the Jumpoff Sandwich. Smoked Chicken is topped with melted cheese, pickled red onion, bacon, and housemade barbecue sauce. The photo above was taken just before he added the housemade hot sauce, which came with a warning. My husband likes it spicy, but he said it was one of the spiciest homemade hot sauces he had ever tried, so he was careful not to drench his sandwich with it.

Bonus! Zsa’s Ice Cream truck was also visiting the Weavers Way Co-Op, so we made sure to save room for dessert. Homemade ice cream for a warm day? Yes, please!
Ice cream cup selections were $3 each and included Peanut Butter, Red Velvet, and Cream Cheese Cookie Dough Brownie. Ice Cream Sandwiches options were $5 and included Vanilla ice cream between salted toffee almond graham crackers, Sweet Cream ice cream between dark chocolate wafers, or Vanilla ice cream between Chocolate Chunk Shortbread. All of them sounded good, but we were both enticed by the salted toffee almond.
Packaged in little baggies with a twist tie, these sandwiches were the perfect size to end our lovely dinner date. And with seasonal rotating ice cream flavors like Buttered Brown Sugar Peach for the warmer months and Chili Peppered Chocolate for the colder months, I will definitely be back to sample more of their goodies. (The Buttered Brown Sugar Peach is also available in an ice cream sandwich between pie crust! Okay, my mouth is watering now…)
Location: Zsa’s Ice Cream truck tours local festivals, co-ops, and farmer’s markets. Check out their webpage for info on where they are, and also see the huge variety of flavors they are making. They also have a Facebook page and a Twitter page to follow.
