I have been trying to catch up with this cute little banana whip truck for some time now. I was intrigued by the concept: a completely vegan “ice cream” made completely from bananas, with tons of fun topping combinations. Boasting a healthy and delicious alternative, the owner (?) in the truck was dressed in a tie-dye shirt that read, “This is Bananas! No seriously, it’s just bananas.” He had some fun guitar jams drifting out of his truck while he worked non-stop to help the long line of patrons waiting for their sweet treats. Foolish Waffles began their food truck journey in 2014 and I tried them at the Chestnut Hill Farmer’s Market, way before I started writing this blog. I recall thinking that they had something special, something that every food truck should strive for: a product that had fresh ingredients, creative ideas for specials, and friendly workers who cared about putting out great food. Since they opened, they have won several awards, including a Philadelphia Magazine 2014 Best of Philly award, 2015 Vendy Award, the Uproxx 2017 AND 2018 Best Food Truck in Pennsylvania award, one of the 101 Best Food Trucks in America by The Daily Meal, and the 2018 list of Top Food Trucks by Philadelphia Magazine.
With all of these accolades, does the waffle stand up to the hype? My answer, an emphatic YES. Continue reading
