Coming off a big win in the Billy Penn 2018 Ultimate Philly Food Truck championship, Stuff’d Buns has been busy slangin’ their sliders all over the Philly area. After the final head-to-head battle against Dump-N-Roll (I’m still trying to hunt this truck down to try it), Philly voters selected Stuff’d Buns as their ultimate favorite, and these two hard working ladies triumphed despite being a fairly new truck on the scene. The Dos Hermanos taco truck is a busy, busy eatery. It took me over a month for our schedules to align so that I could sample enough of their goodies to give a proper review. Dos Hermanos (Spanish for “two brothers”) is run by Manuel and Gabriel Lezama. The pair of brothers were on a mission to bring authentic Mexican tacos to Philadelphia. Farm Truck’s rotating menu features seasonal ingredients from the local area, with inventive combinations that keep it interesting for its patrons. They source their bread from local bakeries and their veggies from local farms. Met at the window by a cheerful order taker with amazing eye makeup skills, I visited the truck on a Thursday lunch session at The Porch at 30th Street. I was in the mood for tacos, so I opted for the buffalo chicken tacos served with housemade ramp blue cheese sauce, citrus pickled red onion, and arugula. Foolish Waffles began their food truck journey in 2014 and I tried them at the Chestnut Hill Farmer’s Market, way before I started writing this blog. I recall thinking that they had something special, something that every food truck should strive for: a product that had fresh ingredients, creative ideas for specials, and friendly workers who cared about putting out great food. Since they opened, they have won several awards, including a  Philadelphia Magazine 2014 Best of Philly award, 2015 Vendy Award, the Uproxx 2017 AND 2018 Best Food Truck in Pennsylvania award, one of the 101 Best Food Trucks in America by The Daily Meal, and the 2018 list of Top Food Trucks by Philadelphia Magazine.

With all of these accolades, does the waffle stand up to the hype? My answer, an emphatic YES.  Continue reading →

Honey has a shiny new truck parked across the street from the College of Engineering on 12th Street at Norris. I was drawn in by the sign advertising chicken and waffles and vowed to return one day to try them. Now let me tell you… this may be the best fried chicken I have ever had from a food truck! This will definitely quell any fried chicken craving you may have. You may remember this truck when it looked more like the photo below. I never tried the food then, but I had been meaning to check it out.

On my first visit, I was not in the mood for waffles, so I tried the chicken avocado wrap instead. The chicken was breaded with panko breadcrumbs and spices, dressed with a small amount of sweet chili sauce, and wrapped with some perfectly ripe avocado. Battered fries were a great companion to this meal. The chicken was juicy and crispy. I’m definitely having this meal again! Continue reading →

unnamed (6)This new truck on the block began serving soul food eats on Temple’s campus starting in 2017. Although there are two other trucks serving soul food on campus—Caribbean Feast and Jamaican D’s—Soul D’lysh serves up soul food with a twist, and a secret weapon called Jerk Salmon Alfredo.

But I’m getting ahead of myself.

My first visit to this truck happened back in 2017, when I first noticed the truck on the block and it was open. I was enticed by the Buttermilk Fried Chicken sandwich because, good fried chicken is always a good thing in my book. I ordered the combo with fries for $7.

Mt. Airy Day

The annual Mt. Airy Day community festival took place on Saturday, May 5 on Germantown Avenue at the Cliveden historical park. This site was the exact spot where a Revolutionary War battle occurred. I volunteered to work at this event and also sampled a few of the food trucks that were parked on Germantown Avenue: Philly Fry, El Guaco Loco, and Pound Cake Heaven. All three trucks served up some tasty goodies!

A newcomer in the Temple food truck scene, Taste of India has become a popular addition to the campus. Taste of India opened in Spring 2018 and attracts hungry lunch-goers with its aromas of curries and spices. Lately, there is always a line, which is always a great sign for a food truck.

Rice platters include your choice of chicken or one of many veggies, rice, yogurt, chutney, and a salad. (Be sure to specify if you want the yogurt and what kind of chutney you want). Combo platters include your choice of main dish with naan (flatbread), papad (a thin and crispy seasoned dough), yogurt, chutney, salad, and a soda. They also offer rotating specials from day to day.

Back in 2016, I reviewed 4Brothers Loco Flavor food truck in this review. At the time, the truck was pretty new and were probably still ironing out the kinks of their menu. The owner of the truck found my review are requested that I come back and give it another try. I am of course always game to try things again! The review I wrote wasn’t necessarily bad, but I am happy to report that the new menu they have is much better! Even the truck itself looks better with new signage and easy to read choices mapped out for you (click to enlarge photos):
