I have been on hiatus from this blog because I recently moved and then subsequently got sick. Anyhow, on my first day of my new commute I accidentally got off the bus at the wrong stop and noticed this huge kawaii panda adorned with a jeweled crown and hugging bubble teas. I loved the art on the truck and it seemed totally fitting for a food truck outside the art building. I knew where I was going to have lunch!

Burger Tank… tanked.

Alas, we have come to the day when I have to write a negative review. It so pains me to do so, since I love to support local businesses and the people that work there were super nice. Plus, I LOVE BURGERS. But after two visits, I’m just not a fan. 😦 The thing is, there is always a huge line, so I’m truly perplexed.

As you can see, there is snow in this photo. This should tell you how long ago I visited the Burger Tank for the first time. I had to drag myself over there for the second visit, but I wanted to give it a fair chance, especially since during my first visit I was feeling particularly adventurous.

On my first visit, I had the Balsamic Burger. It was a strawberry balsamic burger with spinach, roasted red peppers, and American cheese. Sounded like it could be an interesting combination, if done right. Nope. Done wrong, it is awful. It was like a sweet strawberry jam on it, not a tart-vinegary balsamic jam with a hint of strawberry. Add in the red peppers and you have a really strange flavor combination. On top of that, the burger patty was way overcooked and dry. At least the sweet potato fries were crispy and tasty.

There is no shortage of choices here at E&E Gourmet, where photos of and menu signs surround the entire truck with everything from burgers to wraps to breakfast to rice platters and Middle Eastern selections. One morning, I was not feeling my usual breakfast of oatmeal or yogurt, so I stopped at the truck to check out the omelette choices.

IMG_3688IMG_3682This popular truck always seems to have a line of eager people waiting. Chicken is prepared in almost every way possible – chicken fingers, chicken panini, salads with grilled chicken, crispy chicken sandwiches, chicken salad sandwiches, wraps, chicken cheesesteaks, the list goes on. The menu also includes breakfast menu items like egg sandwiches, omelets, bagels, french toast, and pancakes. Burgers, hoagies, and cheesesteaks round out this varied menu.

Go early or call in to get your order faster. Today I had planned on getting their spicy crispy chicken sandwich and the wait was 20 minutes.

Location: On Montgomery between 13th Street and Broad Street

Phone number: (215) 763-7343

Pay: Cash or Credit

Cuisine: American, Greek

What I tried: Grilled Chicken Salad, Chicken Broccoli Panini

Delivery: No

Yelp: http://www.yelp.com/biz/chicken-heaven-philadelphia

A friend recommended the humongous grilled chicken salad. The chicken is marinated in herbs and lemon, and grilled until perfectly tender. This sits upon a mountain of lettuce, cucumbers, and tomato with a sliced hard boiled egg. A large side of dressing is the perfect amount for the portion of salad. The veggies were fresh and crisp and the meal was filling. Overall, a pretty good deal for $6.75.

I have had so many people recommend the crepe truck to me, I finally ventured over to 12th and Norris to try one. I was amazed at the number of combinations available! The Creperie truck lived up to its reputation, with quality ingredients. You could probably eat here everyday for a month and not get have the same thing twice. You can change up toppings and sauces, meats and veggies, and cheeses.

Location: In front of the Tyler School of Art building on 12th and Norris

Phone number: (215) 778-4771

Pay: Cash or Credit

Cuisine: French

What I tried: Sirloin with blue cheese, all veggies; Peach, strawberry, and caramel

Delivery: No

The first time I ate lunch on Temple’s campus, I visited this truck and ordered the pork with salsa verde and an order of chips & guacamole. I remember the chips were a bit stale and hard, so I just put the guacamole on my tacos. Delicious! However, a bit pricey at around $10 for 2 tacos and guac and a drink, compared to other trucks nearby. Most trucks on campus are closer to $5 and a lot of them give a free can of soda with a $5 purchase.
